JAUNDICE DUE TO METHYL TESTOSTERONE THERAPY

Abstract
The nineteenth case of jaundice following methyl testosterone is reported. Although severe and progressive jaundice occurred, the usual laboratory tests for hepatocellular damage were negative. Complete recovery followed discontinuance of the methyl testosterone. The microscopic appearance of the material obtained by needle biopsy and by biopsy at laparotomy was that of a distinct lesion characterized by stasis in the bile capillaries of the central portion of the liver lobule, with no obstruction of the larger bile ducts and with little evidence of hepatocellular damage. Perhaps the bile is two viscid to flow through the canaliculi.
