Propagation of Braconid Parasites of the Pea Aphid123

Abstract
About 100,000,000 braconid parasites of the pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris), were propagated in portable greenhouses placed over alfalfa in mid-winter. The greenhouses, by acting as hot caps, forced alfalfa growth 4-6 weeks ahead of that in surrounding fields. Parasites propagated from the aphids grown in the greenhouses were released into the surrounding alfalfa fields. Rearing and release techniques and equipment are described.
