Production of the $D_{s}^{\pm}$ by High-Energy Neutrons

Abstract

We have observed the production of the

D_{s}^{\pm}

by a high-energy neutron beam on nuclear targets. The

D_{s}^{\pm}

was observed in the decay mode

D_{s}^{\pm} \to φ π^{\pm}

,

φ \to K^{+} K^{-}

. The average of the inclusive cross sections for

D_{s}^{+}

and

D_{s}^{-}

hadroproduction is measured to be

\frac{Bd σ}{d x_{F}} = 2.85 \pm 0.80 \pm 0.86

μb/nucleon at

x_{F} = 0.175

on the assumption of a linear

dependence, where

B \equiv \frac{Γ (D_{s}^{\pm} \to φ π^{\pm})}{Γ (D_{s}^{\pm} \to all)}
