Abstract
The Cl 3s23p5(2Po3/2) to 3s3p5(3Po2,1,0)np (n>or=4) autoionizing Rydberg series are studied by monitoring the partial photoionization cross section of the Cl+ 3s23p4(3Pe) ionic state between 21.75 eV and 24.75 eV. The Rydberg series converging upon the 3s-1 3Po2, 3Po1 and 3Po0 ionization limits are clearly resolved, and Rydberg levels up to n=14 are identified. The present experimental results for the Cl 3s to np Rydberg series are compared with those of the analogous series in Ar, and with theoretical results of a nonrelativistic MBPT calculation. Keywords
