Abstract
Intense bursts of microwave radiation are emitted from a toroidal argon plasma subjected to a large electric field applied parallel to a confining magnetic field. The radiation spectrum has been measured in the range 0.95 to 6 GHz. Peaks in the spectrum can be reasonably accounted for by the theory of beam–plasma interaction between a small group of energetic electrons in the discharge and the main plasma. This indicates that the energetic electron group is an identifiable beam rather than part of a long flat tail on the electron velocity distribution. Keywords
