Abstract
Low voltage eeg''s were more frequent in patients undergoing official expert examination for insurance claims than in the ordinary clinical setting. Anxiety and tense expectancy in these patients might well cause "psychogenic alpha reduction". An example is given of such a case where the patient had shown normal alpha recordings before and a low voltage eeg at the time of the official medical examination. Hyperventilation at the beginning of the recording is recommended as a useful method of preventing psychogenic low voltage eeg''s.
