Abstract
This article reviews the literature related to the use of the "bug-in-the-ear," a wireless earphone, in clinical supervision and trainmg. The use of this instrument in several clinical disciplines is reviewed with the purpose of examining the effectiveness of this tool in the training of therapists. The authors conclude that empirical research into the effectiveness of the earphone as a training device should be undertaken to support the descriptive claims in the literature that it is a useful instrument in the supervision of clinical trainees, particularly for those students in the early stages of training. Suggestions that the earphone is an inhibiting device in suppervision, which promotes intrusion on the part of the supervisor aid dependence on the part of the trainee, are not supported. Keywords
