Abstract
On certain hierarchical lattices the order parameter on a defect line increases discontinuously at the bulk critical temperature for -state Potts models when is sufficiently large, even though the bulk order parameter increases continuously. It is suggested that the same behavior may occur for two-dimensional lattices with .
