Abstract
Since there is no medical treatment for hydatid cysts, the author recommends treatment by operation of cysts 2 cm. in diam. or larger. The author advises for a simple unadherent cyst removal of the cyst contents and closure of the adventitia with interrupted sutures, the ends of which pass through the intercostal muscles and are tied again to bring the closed adventitia up to the parietal pleura. He also does a sealed drainage of the pleural cavity through a separate wound. Indications for lobectomy in hydatid disease, in the author''s experience, are limited to the following conditions: (1) severe hemorrhage from the cyst space during conservative operation; (2) residual bronchiectasis if the symptoms warrant it; (3) empty sac if hemorrhage or infection warrant it; (4) when diagnosis is uncertain, and (5) giant cyst. Keywords
