Abstract
Strong decays of several light mesons are investigated in a flux-tube quark model, where a qq¯ pair is created either in the state or in the state within the flux tube. For comparison, decay rates are also calculated in a naive model, where a qq¯ pair is created anywhere in the neighborhood of parent quarks. The sensitivity of the decay width to the radius of the pion, to relativistic factors like (m/E), and to final-state interactions is studied. Both the and models can explain the available data; however, the model requires stronger final-state interactions.
