Abstract
To the Editor: Studies of congenital defects in newborns have implicated the female as a source of infection. Venereal transmission of these agents (e.g., herpes, cytomegalovirus and mycoplasma) has been suggested.1 2 3 This report is an attempt to determine the frequency of occurrence of viral and mycoplasmal agents in a military population undergoing surgery for sterilization.Over a period of 11 months 242 male patients undergoing vasectomy were studied. One hundred and forty-four specimens of vas deferens were obtained for viral isolation. A second set of 98 specimens of vas deferens with matching urine specimens was cultured for presence of mycoplasma. . . .Keywords
