Abstract
This paper gives a brief outline of the basic principles of ultrasonic echo-sounding techniques. Apparatus suitable for medical applications is described with special emphasis on its use for brain investigation and the related problems of making good acoustic contact. A development of the basic apparatus using scanning methods is then described and an experimental machine with its associated display circuits outlined. A modification of this device for body scanning is suggested. Keywords
