Abstract
EXPERIMENTAL studies, reported elsewhere, presented data on the relative amounts of "free" insulin and insulin complexes in the splenic, portal, hepatic and peripheral vein blood of diabetic and nondiabetic subjects.1 2 3 4 It was shown that insulin is secreted from the pancreas of both diabetic and nondiabetic subjects in the "free," biologically active form within minutes of intravenous administration of glucose.4 In the peripheral vein blood of nondiabetic subjects the insulin appeared both in the "free" form and as an inactive complex, the ratio depending on the metabolic state.2 3 4 In the fasting state the predominant form of insulin in blood circulated as . . .Keywords
