Abstract
The "Dextrostix" test was performed in a survey comprising 1000 consecutive admissions to a neonatal pediatric unit. It revealed 9 cases of symptomatic hypoglycemia, 9 of asymptomatic hypoglycemia, and 4 secondary to other severe diseases. It is a valuable screening test which encourages early diagnosis, and is within the competence of both medical and nursing staff. Thirty-one cases of neonatal hypoglycemia (including those detected in the above survey) were analyzed: 15 were symptomatic, 10 asymptomatic, and 6 secondary in nature. Their management is discussed. Keywords
