Abstract
During the last two decades laser treatments have been shown to be effective in reducing the risk of visual loss in diabetic retinopathy,1-3 age-related macular degeneration (AMD),4-7 and branch retinal vein occlusions.8,9 While the number of successful clinical trials proliferated and the benefits of laser therapy in retinal and choroidal diseases became increasingly well established, there was a parallel explosion in technologic advances that simultaneously introduced a variety of newer lasers into the market. New instrumentation has yielded lasers that can produce wavelengths from blue-green to green to yellow and to red, each at the touch of a button. Each technological advance in the "rainbow" came with theoretical advantages, but will new technology improve efficacy of treatment?
