Abstract
The gross karyotypes of Ctenolabrus rupestris and Symphodus ocellatus are described. Both have 2n = 48 with an NF of 74. A synoptic study of karyotype reports for 50 species of labrids presents evidence supporting a main karyoevolutive trend in the family towards an increase in the NF, presumably by means of pericentric inversions. This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
