Abstract
The previous intake of food is important in determining the basal metabolism of partially depancreatized cats. The calorigenic action of protein in undernourished diabetic cats is above normal. The calorigenic action of protein is similar in diabetes whether the metabolism is high or low. This is in contrast to the disappearance of metabolic stimulation by fats and carbohydrates when the metabolism becomes elevated. After protein ingestion the R. Q. is in general lower in the diabetic than in the normal animal. These observations offer further support for other expts. showing that specific dynamic action of protein is not re-sponsible for the increased metabolism of diabetes.
