Abstract
There is a progressive increase in the rate of thermal decomposition of nickel–cobalt mixed mellitates with increase in nickel content, and there is no discontinuous change in reaction rate with reactant composition, for the various mixtures studied. Rates of evolution of gaseous products of decomposition are greater than would be expected from the reaction of the constituent salts of the mixture; it is thus concluded that reaction proceeds in a solid solution. During the early stages of the decomposition of mixed salts, the activation energy is close to the value for the nickel salt, and in the later stages increases towards the value characteristic of the cobalt salt. Keywords
