Abstract
Of 47 babies mechanically ventilated for more than 27 days for bronchopulmonary dysplasia 20 eventually died. There were no neurodevelopmentally intact survivors among those who were ventilated for more than 50 days. Days of ventilation more powerfully predicted outcome than ultrasound evidence of brain injury. Keywords
