Abstract
With some types of floating‐point hardware, the central processor is free to perform other tasks while a floating‐point operation completes. The FORTRAN complier for the SEL‐840MP computer was modified to execute subscripting calculations in parallel with floating‐point operations where possible. This is done by operating on the triad table for an expression before scanning it to generate code. Skip pointers are inserted into the table to change the order in which entries are processed. Keywords
