Abstract
A cell theory of the liquid state is developed in which the cell centres are placed at the centres of irregularly packed hard spheres. Calculations using this theory and the Lennard-Jones 6–12 potential give excellent agreement, at high densities, with the energy results obtained by Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics studies, but the results for pressure are inferior to those obtained from perturbation theories. Keywords
