Abstract

This paper surveys the results of a benchmark performed in the framework of IMS test case No. 5, entitled: 'Holonic Manufacturing Systems: System Components of Autonomous Modules and their Distributed Control.' This test case is a one-year project that puts forward a new paradigm for manufacturing-the holonic manufacturing system. The benchmark compares the performance of a prototype holonic control system with both a hierarchical and a heterarchical counterpart.
