Abstract
In a newborn boy with hydrocephalus, computed tomography [CT] demonstrated hypoplastic cerebellar hemispheres; the inferior part of the vermis was lacking and the enlarged cisterna magna directly communicated with the 4th ventricle. Ventricles 1-3 were markedly enlarged. Only after intrathecal application of Metrizamide was direct communication of the spinal CSF system with the 4th ventricle demonstrated, determining the diagnosis as Dandy-Walker-Variant. The CT-cisternography is an important additional investigational method with minimal risks to the patient.
