Abstract
The goal of feedback on papers is assumed to be the improvement of future drafts and the improvement of the writing ability of the student. The specificity of comments is a critical variable in providing effective feedback. Comments on student papers should be specific enough to guide students when editing their work, but not so specific that they simply implement the instructor's suggestions. Instructors should minimize corrections of mechanical errors; comments should form a hierarchy of importance that students can easily discern. Keywords
