Abstract
From a strictly quantitative study of the brain in 63 spp. of insectivores and primates, it was possible to calculate interspecific taxonomic distances and to comment on familial and ordinal relationships. The Tupaiiformes, whose systematic position is controversial, are closer to the prosimians than to the insectivores and should be placed on the same level as the Lemuriformes, Daubentoniiformes and Lorisiformes. The position of the Tarsiiformes, which are intermediate between the prosimians and the ceboid simians, cannot be fully determined. The Macroscelididae, which are very different from the Lipotyphlian insectivores, should be raised to the rank of a distinct order.
