Abstract
In 10 dogs under nembutal anesthesia and artificial respiration, auricular flutter or fibrillation was caused by the subepicardial injn. of 0.05 ml. of a 0.05% soln. of aconitine crystals at the area of the head of the sinus node. Subsequent injn. of 0.004 kg. of [alpha]-fagarine chloride i.y. terminated the arrhythmia and restored sinus rhythm within 1 min. There was no dilatation of the heart, no extrasystoles were seen and the blood pressure showed a temporary rise, lasting up to 5 mins. Severing of both vagi in the neck did not change these results. Thus fagarine is very effective and does not lead to the dangerous disturbances seen with its employment in the clinic.
