Abstract
Total charge exchange cross sections for the O+2/O2 system were calculated for vibrational levels of the ion up to v=8 with ground state neutrals. Four different interaction potentials were utilized, each with different coupling strength between the two electronic arrangements, and the results compared to experimental data. Quantitative agreement was not obtained and qualitative agreement was determined to reflect mainly the use of accurate vibrational overlaps and energy gaps rather than the features of the interaction. The implication of these results for the general theoretical treatment of ion–molecule reactions is discussed briefly. Keywords
