Accurate estimation of single-mode-fibre characteristics from near-field measurements

Abstract

We propose a simple procedure to process data from a near-field measurement to obtain accurately an appropriately defined ‘spot size’ in single-mode fibres and hence estimate almost all the relevant fibre characteristics like dispersion, splice loss and microbending loss.
