Abstract
After section of the central connections of the ganglia supplying the taste buds, the taste buds do not degenerate and the barbels, which contain taste buds regenerate. Since this is the reverse of the results when the peripheral nerve supply is cut it is evidently the latter and not the central connections that are essential. Keywords
