Abstract
We present a tight-binding-model calculation of the transmission coefficient for electrons incident upon the interface between two metals. The role of the coupling produced by overlap of wave functions of the two metals is elucidated. The existence of a critical angle analogous to the optical critical angle is demonstrated. The relevance of these results to proximity-effect tunneling experiments is discussed. Keywords
