Abstract
Culture filtrates of Verticillium dahliae grown on synthetic liquid media caused wilting in tobacco seedlings of varieties susceptible to this disease but not in those showing some field resistance. The best toxin production was obtained on a modified Czapek's medium used in shake flask culture. Dilution and heat sterilisation reduced the wilt-producing capacity of culture filtrates. Isolates of V. dahliae from N. tabacum produced more toxin than those from N. sanderae, or Rubus ideaus, while toxin from V. alba atrum failed to produce wilting in tobacco. Keywords
