Abstract
A theory of spatial problem solving led to the prediction that the ease of use of you-are-here maps would depend upon where they were placed in relation to the terrain. Two experiments were performed. One was carried out in symbolic form in the laboratory; the other was performed in the field, as wayfinding in a large building. Both experiments confirmed the prediction. Keywords
