Abstract
Two factors are important in determining the kind and amount of granule formation in cells in culture after treatment with acridine orange: the condition of the cells at the time of dye action (number and kind of preformed granules), and the concentration of dye and the duration of dye action (binding of dye and formation of new granules). Ultraviolet irradiation during the study under the fluorescence microscope leads very quickly to injury of the cells.
