Abstract
Pseudo-first-order constants for production of oxygen and consumption of hydrogen ion are compared for two aquatic plants, Hydrilla and Elodea. These constants are resolved into individual rate constants associated with specific inorganic carbon species, bicarbonate and carbonate. The specific constants for Hydrilla and Elodea appear to be identical. The ratio of two specific constants for hydrogen consumption relative to oxygen production agree with the theoretical value of 2.0 within 15%. The use of a standard study system is described, and the implications for use in evaluating aquatic plant nutrient requirements are considered. Keywords
