Abstract
To the Editor: An association of xanthinuria and hemochromatosis was reported by J. H. Ayvazian in the January 2 issue of the Journal with the interesting proposal that both disorders might be related to the deficiency of xanthine oxidase. We have had the opportunity to study another patient with xanthinuria (Nature 201:395, 1964) in whom this association was not found. Our patient was a twenty-three-year-old Negro woman who was hospitalized because of a pheochromocytoma that was apparently unrelated to the xanthinuria. We were able to demonstrate a gross deficiency of the enzyme xanthine oxidase in both the intestinal epithelium . . .Keywords
