Abstract
Banks of photocells were mounted around a large living cage and were wired to individual printout counters in order to measure activity levels in 2 nocturnal prosimians, the greater galago and the slow loris. Measures were taken from 11.00 p.m. to 7.00 a.m. during a 5-day period. The galagos were significantly more active than the lorises, but there were similarities between the activity patterns of the 2 species. Both were active throughout the night but became significantly less active during the last hour of the 8-hr, test period. Both species used the whole cage but showed a significant preference for the lower half. Finally, both species exhibited extreme variability with respect to daily peaks and troughs of activity. Keywords
