Abstract
This article discusses neuroanatomic and neurophysiologic bases for low back pain. Evidence for the existence of pain generators in facet, disc, muscle, nerve roots, and dorsal root ganglia are discussed. Mechanisms that may explain the persistence of pain, including neurogenic and non-neurogenic inflammation and central sensitization, are also presented. Keywords
