Abstract
Eight chromosomes were counted in two different developmental stages of the brown alga Isthmoplea sphaerophora (Harv.) Kjellm. from Greenland, and in a cell within a unilocular sporangium. This indicates that in Greenland no sexual processes are involved in the life history. The plants are probably haploid. Keywords
