Abstract
From the phenotype distributions of six genetic markers the mean coefficient of kinship in the five tribal popula tions of Orissa spanned over a rather small geographic area is estimated to be 2.613 × 10–3 which is by any standard very low signifying low affinity in spite of geographic proximity. However at a low level, of clustering value the five populations seem to form two clusters of two populations each, the fifth one being in the mid-way between the two clusters. However, these observations must have to be supplemented by historic evidences since these are based only on six out of a vast spectrum of genetic markers which, possibly, can substantially characterize any population structure. Keywords
