Abstract
A random sampling method was developed for highly mobile outdoor recreation resource users as part of a three-year study of downhill skiers. The method permits careful random selection without unduly interfering with the recreation experience and is flexible enough to permit data collection at times convenient to the respondent. Good cooperation and response rates indicate the method may have potential applications for sampling other highly mobile populations of outdoor recreation resource users. The method involves three stages: random sampling and tagging of respondents, recontact with those tagged to complete a short questionnaire, and a mailed supplementary questionnaire to those respondents who agree to complete one. Eleven pages of questionnaire data were collected from each skier using this sampling method as perfected in the final study year. Keywords
