Abstract
An approach to the study of adoption based on a family life cycle perspective is presented, emphasizing the special nature of the adoptive family. The changing tasks of such families and of adopted individuals are outlined in a developmental sequence, illustrated with vignettes, that is intended as a guide for clinical intervention. Keywords
