Abstract
Output voltage, output current and line current waveforms in a symmetrically pulse width modulated (SPWM) ac chopper are analyzed for harmonic content, displacement factor, distortion factor, power factor and efficiency. The results are compared with those of phase controlled ac chopper circuit to assess the superiority of SPWM ac chopper. A novel SPWM ac chopper with minimum number of active components is presented. The circuit operation and the design considerations are discussed. Keywords
