Abstract
From its invention at the end of the last century, up to the period of the late 1950s, steam-turbine plant was an uncompromising area of mechanical engineering; electrical devices generally only appeared in the form of thermocouples for temperature measurement, and relatively little progress had been made, or indeed thought given, to the possibility of applying the newer disciplines of electronics and control engineering. But today sophisiticated electrohydraulic governors are almost universal for larger new plant; turbine instrumentation has become more accurate and reliable; and digital techniques are already in use and seem set to gain ground in the future. Keywords
