Abstract
Two rabbit antisera, rendered specific for human J chains, were shown to cross-precipitate extensively with J chains of completely reduced and alkylated polymeric immunoglobulins (IgA, IgM, and/or SIgA) from the dog, cat, cow, goat, sheep, pig, horse, hedgehog, guinea pig, rat, mouse, and chicken. The data emphasize the great evolutionary stability of the J polypeptide chain. Keywords
