Infectious Mononucleosis and Agranulocytosis

Abstract
A 35-year-old previously healthy housewife was admitted with the clinical, haematological and serological features of infectious mononucleosis. Her illness in turn was complicated by jaundice, cranial nerve palsies, agranulocytosis and finally a protracted encephalitic illness. The agranulocytosis resolved spontaneously without the use of corticosteroids. There is no obvious explanation why the patient was so severely affected.
