Abstract
The contention of Collins and Andrews (see ibid., vol.7, p.L43 (1976)) that the narrow peak in the soft X-ray emission spectrum of an 8% Fe-Al alloy is due to core L1-L2,3 transitions is refuted by the experimental observation that a less prominent peak is found for Fe3Al. The arguments in favour of a localized state around an Al impurity in Fe are summarized. Keywords
