Pathway of Purine Nucleotide Synthesis in Bacillus Subtilis*

Abstract
The pathway of purine nucleotide biosynthesis was studied in B.subtilis MARBURG strain. It was found that purine nucleotide biosynthetic pathway in B.subtilis was analogous to that of avian tissues. The inter conversion of AMP and GMP was assured. Adenine derivative was converted to hypoxanthine derivative with two ways; the one was the way catalyzed by the deaminase and the other seemed to be the way through 5-amino-4-imidazolecarboxamide ribotide to which AMP was converted on the histidine biosynthetic pathway. Guanine derivative was converted to hypoxanthine derivative by the reductase.
