Antibody Response in Man to Injection of the Specific Antigen of Type V Shigella paradysenteriae

Abstract
A highly toxic antigen which was analyzed as a lipo-carbohydrate-protein complex was isolated from Type V S. paradysenteriae. Despite its toxicity, its unusual potency permitted its use in man in sufficiently small doses for the successful production of antibodies which are broadly cross reactive. Whether this specific antigen affords protection against bacillary dysentery is still untested.
