Abstract
A direct determination of the temperature dependence of the refractive index of water has been performed in the range -3 degrees to +80 degrees C. In this range delta n/ delta t shows an exponential behaviour. Attempts have been made to obtain a relation between delta n/ delta t and the molecular polarisability of water. Keywords
