Sebaceous Inhibition with 16-Epiestriol-3-Allyl Ether

Abstract
This is a clinical evaluation of a drug capable of decreasing sebaceous secretion. Because of some limitation of supply and of the desire to select cases carefully, none of the refinements of a closely controlled statistical study was carried out. For the past 18 months, 16-epiestriol-3-allyl ether has been used on cases of acne vulgaris or other cases, all of which had an over-abundance of oil. Most were problem patients who had been on standard forms of therapy and thus had established their rate of improvement, or lack of it. Changes were noted mindful of the usual expectation of improvement in such cases. Objective evaluation was not too difficult, since the question was simply whether a clinical decrease in sebaceous oil secretion had resulted.
